Can you please tell us your name and where you are from?
Wuraola Oyewusi, from Ogbomosho in Oyo State.
What prompted you to start promoting the Yoruba language through your lessons on Data science?
It’s mostly because I can. I am a technology subject matter expert (Data Science and Artificial Intelligence). I speak Yoruba very well and often, so consider it as me having conversations in a zone of some of the things I am great at.
What future plans do you have for what you do?
About future plans, this is only a small part of my life, but I have published about 22 videos so far. It’s watched all over the world. It’s fun when Yoruba people in other countries say hello. I will continue to make videos when I have something to say.
What are the core values of the Yoruba people as you know them?
I understand there are cultural omoluabi principles, but as it is with humans, Yoruba people are not a monolith.
Where do you think Yoruba people will be in 200 years? Is there a possibility for the language to go into extinction?
I wouldn’t know, but digitised languages (think written, spoken, accessible online) have a higher survival rate.
What do you think about the Yoruba culture generally?
I am biased, but I will say progressive.
What is your greatest motivation?
Mastery. I enjoy being great at what I do.
